Title: AWIS Mentoring Project

Contributor: Association for Women in Science (AWIS) (author)
Association for Women in Science (AWIS) (publisher)
Description: As part of the Association for Women in Science (AWIS) website, this resource provides background information on why mentoring is important to women in science and information on how to become or find a mentor. Many people believe that once more women are in the pipeline they will automatically flow upward and, ultimately, assume leadership positions. In reality, women drop out of the sciences at all levels of the academic pipeline. The purpose of the AWIS Mentoring Project is to attract and retain women undergraduate and graduate students in the sciences. It is designed to integrate female students into the scientific community by helping them identify and overcome the obstacles that prevent them from continuing in science. This resource is appropriate for all users, particularly for girls and women, because it informs girls and women about activities targeted at them such as summer camps, educational programs, scholarships, internships, professional development, and professional organizations.
