Url: http://www.popsci.com/scitech/article/2002-04/my-mother-scientist
Contributor: Charles Hirshberg (author)
PopularScience.com (publisher)
Description: The author of this article in Popular Science's online magazine describes what it was like to be the son of a pioneer female physicist. The author's mother, Joan Feynman, worked at the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, D.C. and was a senior scientist at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory when such positions were largely reserved for men. This resource is appropriate for all users, particularly for girls and young women, because it identifies a female role model in a STEM field, it addresses concerns relating to gender-bias and/or discrimination, and acknowledges women's contributions to STEM.
